New Orleans World’s Fair 1984; 4’h 20’w 40’d, 3’h 5’w 10’d, 3’h 8’w 15’d; levy bags, concrete, Stow product
The Alligators (6) as seating were included in the 1984 World’s Fair Wonder Wall, which included the celestial, terrestrial, and subterranean landscapes designed by Charles Moore, FAIA. The waters of the Mississippi are held back by a levy bag system allowing alligators and other critters to flourish. The levy bags were sized to be assembled into the creatures with varying gestures for each. The alligator bags came in a box, Tulane students helped with the filling of the bags with concrete watered down, and painted. They appeared as landscape to children until they saw the reflective eye, which revealed the personality of the form.
